Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met January 14, 2019, in the High School Board Meeting Room at 7:15 p.m., called to order by the president. The nine directors present approved the minutes from December 3 and December 14, 2018, along with the January financial reports, and authorized payment of the monthly bills across the General Fund, Food Service Funds, Activity Fund, and Capital Reserve. The board authorized the posting and advertisement of the 2019-2020 preliminary budget presented by an employee.

The board approved the average billing proposal for Parkway West Career and Technology Center, a two-year renewal of the Sun Life group life and disability contract running March 1, 2019, through March 1, 2021, and authorization to participate in the Allegheny Intermediate Unit Joint Purchasing Program. It approved a Voluntary Placement Agreement for a student and the Bell Settlement Agreement and Release of Claims, which passed with only the president and three other directors voting against it. The board approved the High School Program of Studies, a speech and debate field trip to Bloomsburg University, and the 2018-2019 organization club.

The board approved first readings of seven revised policies, the second reading of Policy 810 on transportation, and third readings of numerous revised policies, with Policy 908 tabled. It approved conferences for two employees' Title IX training, and personnel actions including two retirement resignations, several leaves of absence, a long-term substitute kindergarten teacher, tenure for an employee, a probationary termination, and numerous coaches, student teachers, and STA drivers. Two employees spoke on the district's difficult financial decisions and progress toward fiscal sustainability before the board adjourned at 9:15 p.m.
