Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met on January 28, 2019, under the president, with eight directors present and one director absent. The board approved the bills for the period January 11–24, 2019, across the General, Activity, Food Service, and Capital Reserve funds. It approved the Parkway West General Operating and Jointure budgets for 2019-2020, with the district's estimated shares approved. The board renewed the managed vision care contract with Vision Benefits of America, effective July 1, 2019, through June 30, 2021.

The board approved the revised 2019 meeting dates, the revised 2018-2019 calendar adding April 2 as a no-school election day, June 5 as a two-hour early release, and June 6 as the last half-day for teachers. It approved a high school orchestra field trip to Hollidaysburg for the PMEA Region Orchestra Festival, along with multiple girls rugby club trips with no anticipated district costs.

On personnel, the board approved an extension to an employee's childrearing leave, a childbearing leave for an employee, accepted the retirement of an employee and the resignation of an employee, approved an assistant principal's transfer to the middle school effective July 1, 2019, approved spring 2019 coaches, and approved nursing student teachers and STA van drivers.

The board nominated an employee for PSBA Local Board Liaison in two separate motions. The first passed on a voice vote; the second passed on a roll call vote with the president and another director voting against. The meeting adjourned at 7:26 p.m., and the board announced an executive session to discuss personnel and litigation.
