Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met February 11, 2019, under the president, with eight directors present and one director absent; the board had earlier held an executive session on personnel and litigation. The board approved a contract with Constellation for electricity supply, a 60-month contract beginning May 2019, contingent on the rate as of February 11. It approved a three-year natural gas consortium renewal with Direct Energy Business Marketing and UGI Energy Services, and accepted a grant from the NEA Foundation for aquaponics. The board approved the preliminary 2019-2020 General Fund Budget, a revised 2018-2019 school calendar, and the monthly bills for January 25 to February 7. It accepted donation checks from a church, a parent, and a parent-teacher council to clear negative lunch debt balances.

The board approved AP off-site testing at the Doubletree by Hilton Pittsburgh International Airport at no cost to the district, and authorized a high school orchestra field trip to the PMEA Region Orchestra Festival. It passed first reading of Policy 707 and Administrative Procedure 805, second reading of seven student-related policies, and third reading of Policies 810 and 908. In personnel, the board approved leaves for three employees, accepted the retirements of two employees, rescinded and re-approved spring rugby coaches, and approved three van drivers. Board comments highlighted boys' basketball as section champions and swim teams winning the MAC, and an employee floated a round ball classic basketball event for April 13. The meeting adjourned at 8:30 pm.
