Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met on March 25, 2019, with all nine directors present and the president presiding. The superintendent reported that the district would cut its nine Reading Specialist positions to four or five district-wide, serving K-2 students through attrition without furloughs or job losses. The board recognized two students: a junior at Parkway West High School, a Parkway West CTC student, and a sophomore at Moon Area.

The board approved the monthly bills for March 8-22, accepted a donation from the Moon Area Education Foundation for teacher classroom grants, and approved the revised 2019-2020 school calendar. It approved the NaviGate Prepared proposal for student and staff safety software, later tabling the motion pending further discussion, then recalling it and approving it after a recess. The board approved field trips for the high school music department to the PMEA All-State Festival, the Speech and Debate team to the National Debate Tournament in Milwaukee, the varsity boys basketball team to the state championship in Hershey, and the boys rugby club to Ohio. It approved the Boys Volleyball and Girls Golf Booster Clubs.

On personnel, the board approved leaves for two employees, named an employee as girls soccer coach, approved an STA bus driver, accepted two pre-student teachers, and granted an employee a salary increase. The meeting adjourned at 7:55 pm.
