Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met on April 8, 2019, under the president, with nine directors present and the solicitor seated. The board approved the minutes from March 11 and 25, along with the April financial reports, and authorized the monthly bills covering the General, Activity, and Food Service funds for the period March 23 to April 4, 2019.

On finance, the board authorized Boenning and Scattergood as underwriting firm and RBC as municipal advisor for the 2009 and 2010 bond refunding issues, and named Buchanan, Ingersoll & Rooney as bond counsel. It also authorized the district to send a 120-day cancellation letter to First American Financing for Lease Schedule 02.

The board approved the 2020-2021 school calendar, a cost-free partnership with RC21X for student athletes, an amended student assistance program agreement with Holy Family Institute, a renewal contract with Pediatric Therapy Specialists for July 2019 through June 2021, and a release and indemnification agreement with Animal Friends for its therapy-dog program at Bon Meade Elementary, pending the solicitor's review of insurance. It approved field trips for the Speech and Debate team to Dallas and three Odyssey of the Mind teams to Swiftwater, Pennsylvania.

The board passed policies at first, second, and third reading, including revisions covering drones, asthma inhalers, graduation requirements, and Safe2Say Something procedures. In personnel, it granted sabbaticals to two employees, approved several leaves, confirmed spring and fall coaches including one coach, and accepted the resignation of an employee from bus duty, filling it with another employee.

A director abstained from the RC21X vote due to an interest in the company; all other motions passed unanimously. The board also heard from an employee about a food-redistribution program planned for Hyde Elementary, and from students supporting a coach, and adjourned at 8:30 pm.
