Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met May 13, 2019, under the president, with eight directors present and one director absent. The board approved the April minutes and financial reports, then authorized payment of the monthly bills across the General, Activity, and Food Service funds. It approved the proposed final budget with a June 24 adoption date, voting unanimously except for one director, who dissented. The board appointed a treasurer for the July 1, 2019, to June 30, 2020, term.

Several agreements and purchases passed unanimously: a Memorandum of Agreement with the Department of Defense for surplus computers, an updated high school laptop usage notice, approval to sell outdated computer equipment and network switches, the 2019-2020 Allegheny Intermediate Unit educational services agreement, and a three-year trash and recycling contract with Valley Waste Service. The board renewed the Safe Schools compliance subscription, the UPMC MAPS program agreement, the NWEA MAPs testing renewal, and the EdInsight renewal. It approved a settlement agreement with a student and voluntary placement agreements with two students.

The board approved numerous personnel actions, including extra pay for two teachers at Brooks Elementary, family and childbearing leaves for three employees, the hiring of a middle school dishwasher/server, and the acceptance of a retirement resignation. It approved student teachers and interns for 2019-2020, summer help for an employee, and STA bus drivers. Additional approvals covered field trips for the boys basketball team, elementary and middle school trips, the French department's Quebec trip, and staff conferences, plus acceptance of 300 donated kindergarten books from the Moon Township Library Friends. The superintendent and the president recognized an Eagle Scout and the section-champion gymnastics team, and the board adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
