Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met July 15, 2019, at 7:05 p.m., in the High School Board Meeting Room, with the president presiding. Five directors were present—the president, and four other directors—while four directors were absent. The board had met in executive session beforehand to discuss personnel and litigation.

The board approved the minutes from the June 10 and June 24 meetings along with the July financial reports. It approved the monthly bills for the period June 21 to July 11, 2019, split between the General Fund, Activity Fund, and Food Service Fund. The board approved voluntary student accident insurance with United States Fire Insurance Company at no cost to the district, and a Microsoft licensing agreement for an annual purchase. It appointed two residents to the Allegheny County Tax Collection Committee and approved an employee as Assistant to the Superintendent.

The board retained law firm Jessica Quinn-Horgan for construction litigation at a set hourly rate and approved educational agreements with Nemours/Dupont Hospital, Holy Family Institute's Student Assistance Program, and Glade Run Lutheran Services. It approved second readings of revised policies on drugs and alcohol, student misbehavior, and parent organizations. A conference trip for two educators to an autism conference passed 4-1, with one director voting against.

On personnel, the board approved several leaves of absence, long-term substitute teachers for Spanish, science, family consumer science, grade 1 at Allard and Brooks elementary, and a speech language pathologist, all at a set daily rate. It hired an employee as speech language pathologist, approved department heads and coordinators for 2019-2020, hired lifeguards and STA bus monitors, and approved extra pay for a cyber program coordinator. The meeting adjourned at 7:24 p.m.
