Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met August 26, 2019, at 7:11 p.m., called to order by the Vice President. Seven directors were present—the Vice President, Bogatay, Scappe, Blair, Harper, Wolowicz, Zieger, and Dugan—with Testa absent. The board approved the monthly bills for August 9–22, 2019, across the General and Activity funds. It approved a partnership with Schneider Electric, the 2019-2020 school bus routes and stops, and a Release and Indemnification Agreement with Animal Friends for its Therapets therapy-dog program supporting the emotional support classroom at Bon Meade Elementary.

The board approved an agreement with Keysolutions Educational Staffing to cover a school psychologist's leave, Resolution No. 2019-6 authorizing a Statement of Charges for Employee No. 2877, and an affiliation agreement with Edinboro University for an academic experience site. It approved field trips for the Varsity and Middle School Cross Country teams to Hershey (September 20–21) and Sharpsville (September 21). The board adopted six policies on third and final reading: Field Trips (121), Admission of Students (201), School Wellness (246), Hazing (247), Homeless Students (251), and School Vehicle Drivers (810.3). It approved the Moon Area High School Choir booster fundraising request forms.

On personnel, the board hired a dishwasher/server at McCormick Elementary and a special education assistant at Bon Meade. It rescinded a medical leave, and approved leaves for three employees. It approved ESY substitute assistants, awarded tenure to six employees, and approved mentors, sixth-class assignments, and extra-duty positions across all schools. It rescinded a head coach position for Varsity Boys Track and approved the same employee as Varsity Boys Tennis head coach. The meeting adjourned at 7:58 p.m.
