Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met on September 9, 2019, at 7:04 p.m., called to order by the Vice President, with seven directors present and two absent. The board approved the minutes from August 12 and 26 and a suite of September financial reports, then authorized the monthly bills for the period August 23 to September 5, 2019, split across the General, Activity, and Food Service funds. It approved a memorandum of understanding with the Moon Area Education Support Professional Association, contract changes with Lincoln Learning, the Kennywood school picnic agreement for June 15, 2020, the Student Council's annual request to operate, and the middle and high school field trips for 2019-2020.

The board approved a request for exception to Policy No. 202 on non-resident enrollment, retired Policy No. 205 on postgraduate students, and gave first-reading approval to revised Policy No. 702.1 on crowdfunding. It approved conferences for two employees and accepted an agreement with a parent and student over an August 26 incident involving the student code of conduct.

On personnel, the board hired two kindergarten teachers, a long-term substitute kindergarten teacher at Brooks, and a district nurse assistant, granted a medical leave to an employee, and named four Safety Care trainers. It rescinded and re-approved extra-pay duty positions at Allard, McCormick, and Brooks elementary schools, approved a salary increase for an employee retroactive to July 1, 2019, approved fall event workers and a volunteer girls' soccer assistant coach, and hired three STA bus drivers. The meeting closed at 7:46 p.m.
