Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met on September 23, 2019, in the High School Board Meeting Room, called to order by the president. Directors present were the president, Hauser, Scappe, Blair, Wolowicz, Zieger and Harper; Bogatay and Dugan were absent. The board approved the monthly bills for September 6-19, approved the Addiction Medicine Specialist Services Agreement for 2019-2020, and approved field trips and the middle school club list.

In personnel actions, the board approved mentors Tristen Kohl, Rebecca Myers and Alison Scanlon, along with their inductees Nicole Falcione, Anna Benvin and Rachael Evans. It accepted the retirement of a dishwasher/server at Bon Meade Elementary effective December 20, 2019, approved a childbearing leave for a Grade 2 teacher beginning October 1, a medical leave for a maintenance worker beginning October 8, and extra pay for a bus monitor at Brooks Elementary. The board rescinded extra-pay approvals for an employee's art show positions and approved volunteer weight room coaches Frank Cremonese and Michael Durkin, a building assistant at McCormick Elementary, STA van drivers Aaron Bundy, Mamie Clark and Regina Powers, and numerous elementary and middle school remediation tutors and facilitators.

The board approved Part K project refinancing of General Obligation Bonds Series of 2019 with Resolution 2019-7, accepted donations from Crescent Township Civic Center, a resident, and a Dollar General Literacy Foundation youth literacy grant, and voted to table Resolution 2019-8 terminating Employee No. 2877. An employee raised concerns about drivers not stopping for school buses, and a resident asked the board to allow a homeschooled student who plays sports to have his yearbook photo. The meeting adjourned at 7:40 p.m.
