Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met on October 14, 2019, at 7:10 p.m., called to order by the Vice President. Directors present were the Vice President, Scappe, Blair, Wolowicz, Zieger, and Harper; Testa, Bogatay, and Dugan were absent.

The board approved a settlement agreement with First American Leasing, Inc., for schedules 1, 2, and 3 computers. It approved the September 9 and 23 minutes and the October financial reports, including the Treasurer's, Investment, Board Summary, High School/Middle School Activities, and Procurement Card reports. The board approved the October bills for the period September 20 to October 10, 2019, split between the General Fund, Activity Fund, and Food Service.

The board accepted a donation of books from Day Apollo Subaru for the Library/Makerspace at Allard Elementary School, approved a services agreement with McGuire Memorial Employment Options Center, and approved expulsion/placement and student placement agreements for two students. It recommended the reappointment of Scappe to the Moon Transportation Authority, approved the 2019-2020 operation of high school organizations, and approved a middle school eighth-grade field trip to Gettysburg and Hershey Park in May 2020, along with the attached field trips for the year. The board approved the second reading of revised Policy No. 702.1 on crowdfunding.

On personnel, the board approved leaves of absence for four employees, accepted the retirement of an employee, and the resignation of an employee, and approved a separation agreement for an employee. It approved a long-term substitute Grade 2 teacher at Allard, along with a mentor, equipment manager, digital leader, detention supervisor, and numerous extra-duty positions across Allard, Hyde, McCormick, and the middle school, plus remediation facilitators and Keystone Portfolio facilitators. The board approved STA drivers and monitors pending clearances. A parent raised a discipline concern about his child. The meeting adjourned at 7:48 p.m.
