Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education met February 24, 2020, at 7:00 p.m., in the High School Board Meeting Room, called to order by the president. Nine directors were present, along with the superintendent, an employee, an employee, and the solicitor. The board had met in executive session beforehand to discuss personnel and legal matters.

In the superintendent's report, the superintendent recognized a senior, a 2019 National Merit Scholarship finalist who plans to attend MIT, and updated the board on the Comprehensive and Professional Education Planning project, a 26-person committee expected to present its needs assessment for board approval in late spring or early summer.

The board approved the monthly bills for the period February 7 to February 20, 2020, across the General Fund, Activity Fund, Food Service, and Capital Reserve. It awarded Computec Technical Services, Inc., the winning bid for Erate-funded network cabling services, vetted through Questeq. The board accepted a donation from the NEA Foundation for makerspace upgrades at the Middle School, a book donation from the Moon Public Library for incoming kindergarteners, and the Tabletop Games organization's annual request to operate. It approved the daily field trips list, a Varsity swimming trip to Bucknell University March 10-12, and personnel items including tenure for an employee, a family medical leave for an employee, a medical leave for a nurse assistant starting May 11, extra pay for a monitor, STA van drivers, and a volunteer baseball assistant coach.

The president highlighted the "Little Shop of Horrors" musical running March 19-22, Bon Meade Elementary's American Heart Association fundraiser, and athletic championships in swimming and bowling, plus a girls' gymnastics section title and girls' basketball playoff win. The meeting adjourned at 7:16 p.m.
