Virtual Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held its April 13, 2020 business meeting virtually at 7:00 p.m., called to order by the president. The board met in executive session beforehand to discuss personnel and legal matters.

The board approved the minutes from the March 9 and March 23, 2020 meetings, along with the April financial reports including the treasurer's, investment, board summary, activities, and procurement card reports. It approved the bills for the period March 19 to April 10, 2020. The board passed Resolution No. 2020-2, temporarily suspending board policies governing meeting rules, and Resolution No. 2020-3, approving an eSignature with the Department of Education.

The board approved the Allegheny Intermediate Unit's annual agreements for special education funding for the 2020-2021 school year and accepted two grants for Brooks Elementary School, the Game of Physical Activity Grant and the Champion School Seed Mini-Grant. It approved ABM Building Solutions to proceed with an energy savings project, with all directors voting in favor except one director, who voted in disfavor.

The board approved co-op agreements allowing students from another school to compete on Moon Area cross country, volleyball, golf, rugby, lacrosse, tennis, and gymnastics teams, and allowing students from another school to join the girls golf team, both starting with the 2020 athletic season. It approved a memorandum of agreement with the Moon Area Education Support Professionals Association and authorized a new U.S. Army Star Club at the high school. The board rescinded a medical leave of absence request from an employee.

Board members discussed the ongoing online learning rollout and graduation plans. The president and other board members emphasized that graduation was not canceled, though details remained undecided. A director encouraged a parent to share feedback on distance learning. The meeting adjourned at 7:44 p.m.
