Virtual Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held its May 11, 2020 business meeting virtually at 7:00 p.m., called to order by the president. Nine directors were present, and the board had earlier met in executive session on personnel and legal matters.

The board approved the minutes from the April 13 and April 27 meetings along with the May financial reports, including the treasurer's, investment, board summary, activities, and procurement card reports. It then approved bills for the period April 24 to May 6, 2020, split across the general fund, activity fund, and food service. An employee was appointed board treasurer for a one-year term running July 1, 2020, to June 30, 2021.

The board approved the proposed final budget for the 2020-2021 school year, with final adoption set for June 22, 2020. It authorized a four-year lease to purchase 1,900 devices to expand the 1:1 program districtwide, and approved the Envision Math K-7 curriculum subscription. The board authorized the administration to post remote extended school year positions for summer 2020, including two learning support teachers, one elementary emotional support teacher, three speech and language pathologists, and seven ABA/life skills support teachers, all delivered remotely due to COVID-19.

The board approved first and final readings of revised policies on attendance via electronic communications, family and medical leaves, and federal fiscal compliance, along with a procurement attachment for federal programs. It approved an employee as a teacher of a 6th class and an employee as a homebound instructor. The president noted uncertainty about summer and fall operations pending state guidance. The meeting adjourned at 7:30 p.m. All motions passed on roll call votes.
