Virtual Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held its virtual business meeting on September 14, 2020, at 7:00 p.m., with the president presiding and eight directors present. The board accepted the immediate resignation of a director and voted to advertise the vacant seat, with applications due September 15–25. It approved the August 10 and 24 minutes and several financial reports, authorized payment of the monthly bills for the period August 21 to September 10, 2020, and updated the superintendent's title in PDE's eGrants system. The board approved an ABM Building Solutions payment certificate for the Bundled Energy Project, the 2020–2021 school bus routes and stops, and annual operating requests from the Moon Area Choirs and Senior Class of 2021.

Personnel actions included accepting the retirements of two employees, resignations of an employee and an assistant football coach, and approving leaves of absence for several staff members, along with teachers assigned sixth classes, extra-duty cyber teachers, fall and winter coaches, fall event workers, a pre-student teacher, and two STA bus drivers. The superintendent presented a phased return-to-school plan, bringing K–6 students back four days a week and grades 7–12 one day a week, with Parkway students returning first in a hybrid model. The board discussed the Moon Transportation Authority's LERTA tax diversion, the FNB lease renegotiation, and the substitute-teacher shortage, and heard extensive public questions on masks, face shields, virtual learning, and bus routes. The meeting adjourned at 12:17 a.m.
