Virtual Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held its virtual business meeting on January 11, 2021, at 7:00 p.m., with eight directors present and one director absent. The board approved the minutes of the December 7, 2020 reorganization and business meetings, along with the January financial reports, on a roll call vote. It approved payment of the monthly bills for the period December 5, 2020, to January 7, 2021, and approved the preliminary General Fund Budget for 2021-2022, with one director voting against. The board approved a contract with Transfinder Transportation Services for an upgraded transportation package, authorized an employee as PEMA/FEMA agent for the COVID-19 disaster relief application, and approved the High School Program of Studies for 2021-2022. It approved first and final reading of revised Policy No. 202 on nonresident student eligibility and named an employee as the district's representative in the 2021 WPIAL Rifle Championship.

The board took personnel action on a large supplemental agenda, approving leaves of absence, internal movements, tenure for an employee, resignations including those of two employees, and hires such as three employees, plus spring coaches, STA drivers, and winter event workers. It approved a medical leave for an employee.

The board received reports on Parkway West Career and Technology Center, where the business manager received a five-year contract, and on the Moon Transportation Authority, which elected a director as president and approved consulting, advertising, and banking arrangements. Directors debated the authority's property-tax assessment dispute with eight hotels filing for reassessment and the district's potential revenue loss. The meeting adjourned at 8:49 p.m.
