Virtual Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held its March 8, 2021, virtual business meeting at 7:10 p.m., called to order by the president, with nine directors present and the superintendent absent. The board approved the minutes from the February 8 and 22 meetings along with the March financial reports, including the treasurer's, investment, board summary, activities, and procurement card reports. It approved bills for the period February 20 to March 5, split between the general fund, activity fund, and food service. The board adopted the IDEA Part B Use of Funds Agreement for 2021-2022, accepted a grant in credits for music supplies, and approved the first and final reading of Policy No. 215 on promotion and retention. It also gave first readings to eight revised policies covering discrimination and Title IX, discipline of students with disabilities, extracurricular activities, interscholastic athletics, sudden cardiac arrest, student admission, immunizations, and adult-student boundaries.

On personnel, the board hired a high school custodian, accepted the retirement of a middle school computer teacher and the resignation of a bus duty worker, approved extra-duty stipends at Hyde, Bon Meade, and Allard elementary schools, raised an employee's stipend for payroll duties, granted a family medical leave to a learning support teacher, approved spring coaches and a videographer, accepted a student teacher, and hired an STA van driver. The board also approved two sets of field trips for the girls rugby club at no cost to the district. Reports covered Parkway West, which rescheduled its meeting, and the Moon Transportation Authority, with design work ongoing on Marketplace and Rouser Road. The meeting adjourned at 7:35 p.m. after directors congratulated the gymnastics, swim, and girls gymnastics teams.
