Virtual Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held its March 22, 2021 virtual workshop meeting at 7:00 p.m., called to order by the president. Eight directors were present—Dugan, Scappe, Bogatay, Hauser, Partica, Testa, and Hamilton-Archer, alongside the president—with one director absent. The board approved the monthly bills for the period March 6 to March 19, 2021, split across the General Fund, Activity Fund, and Food Service. It approved a Memorandum of Understanding with the Allegheny Intermediate Unit to support kindergarten transitions for the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 years, a renewal contract with Pediatric Therapy Specialists for occupational and physical therapy, and voluntary placement agreements with 3 students. The board also approved the Kennywood School Picnic for June 27, 2021, a list of high school clubs operating retroactively, and second-reading approvals of 8 revised policies covering Title IX, discipline of students with disabilities, extracurricular activities, interscholastic athletics, sudden cardiac arrest, student admission, immunizations, and adult-student boundaries.

On personnel, the board approved a building assistant at Brooks Elementary, accepted the retirements of a teacher at Hyde Elementary and a teacher at McCormick Elementary, and approved leaves for 2 employees. It authorized extra pay for middle school and Allard Elementary duty positions, approved several internal movements at Brooks and Bon Meade Elementary, accepted 5 student teachers from Slippery Rock University, approved a volunteer baseball assistant, and accepted an STA driver and a McCormick dishwasher/server. All motions passed on roll call votes. The superintendent recognized an Eagle Scout and the state championship girls' gymnastics team. The meeting adjourned at 7:23 p.m.
