Virtual Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held its April 12, 2021 virtual business meeting at 7:00 p.m., called to order by the president, with nine directors present and the superintendent presiding. The board approved the minutes from March 8 and 22, 2021, along with the April financial reports, and authorized payment of the monthly bills from March 20 to April 9, 2021, split between the General Fund, Activity Fund, and Food Service. It approved an Indiana University of Pennsylvania field experience agreement effective for five years, accepted donations from Robert Morris University and Student Transportation of America for incoming kindergarteners, and approved the Lacrosse Club and Booster Organization to operate retroactively to January 2010.

The board adopted eight policies on their third and final reading, including Policy 103 on discrimination and Title IX sexual harassment, Policy 113.1 on disciplining students with disabilities, Policy 203 on immunizations, and Policy 824 on maintaining professional adult-student boundaries. On personnel, it accepted the retirement of a special education assistant, the resignation of a fourth-grade substitute, approved an educational sabbatical for an employee and a medical leave for an employee, authorized extra-duty pay for an employee and several middle school class sponsors, approved an internal movement for an employee, and hired three summer speech language pathologists—plus a list of student teachers and interns for the 2021-2022 year.

Reports covered Parkway West Career and Technology Center's June summer camp, the Moon Transportation Authority's Market Place District work, and student activities including a June 5 graduation projected at Robert Morris University. The board also discussed a planned summer remediation survey for younger students and a new-member onboarding process. The meeting adjourned at 8:24 p.m.
