Virtual Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held its May 10, 2021 virtual business meeting at 7:15 p.m., called to order by the president. Seven directors were present, with two directors absent. The board approved the minutes from the April 12 and April 26 meetings and a suite of May financial reports, approved the monthly bills across the General, Activity, and Food Service funds, and approved the proposed final 2021-2022 budget with a June 21 adoption date. The board appointed a resident as Board Treasurer for a one-year term beginning July 1, 2021, after closing nominations with a single nominee.

The board approved lease agreements with the Allegheny Intermediate Unit for its Pre-K Counts and DART programs for 2021-2022, renewed its Project Succeed agreement with Keystone Oaks as a dropout-prevention measure, and approved a free strength-and-conditioning program provided by Dick's Sporting Goods. It approved daily field trips for 2020-2021, plus a girls volleyball trip to Hershey and a girls softball trip to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. The board granted first-reading approval to four revised policies covering home-education students' extracurricular participation, discipline of students convicted of sexual assault, dating violence, and attendance and tardiness.

On personnel, the board accepted the retirements of two employees, rescinded the retirement of an employee, and granted her unpaid and family medical leaves through September 7, 2021. It approved leaves for two employees, an educational sabbatical for an employee, fall and winter head coaches for 2021-2022, extra-duty pay for intramurals, summer help workers, and an STA van driver. The superintendent updates covered graduation on June 5, a Pfizer vaccination clinic with Rite Aid and the Cornell district, and a summer remediation program. The meeting adjourned at 9:09 p.m.
