Virtual Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held its July 19, 2021 virtual business meeting at 7:08 p.m., called to order by the president. Directors Bogatay, Dugan, Hauser, Testa, and Hamilton-Archer were present; the president, Zieger, and Scappe were absent, with Scappe joining at 8:13 p.m. and leaving at 8:30 p.m.

After the superintendent's report on the Safety Plan and public comments on the mask mandate, the board approved the minutes from June 14 and June 28, 2021, along with the July financial reports. It approved the monthly bills, an ABM Building Solutions requisition, and the One-to-One device protection plan. The board adopted a five-year McGraw Hill K-5 Wonders ELA contract and a three-year IXL electronic resource contract.

The board approved the 2021-2022 Health and Safety Plan, the 2021-2022 meeting dates, the Moon Area Choirs annual operating request, and Policy No. 150 on second reading. It approved Policies 137.1, 218.3, 252, and 318 for third and final reading, and authorized a marching band trip to Obetz, Ohio, on September 25, 2021.

On personnel, the board appointed a middle school nurse, a high school science teacher, a long-term substitute math teacher, a safety coordinator, and an employee on family medical leave. It accepted a retirement and approved pre-student teachers, fall coaches, and STA drivers. It also approved a fully funded aquaponics seminar. The meeting adjourned at 8:52 p.m.
