Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held its September 13, 2021 business meeting at 7:00 p.m., called to order by the president, with eight directors present and a director absent until 7:10 p.m. After an executive session on personnel and legal matters, the board approved the minutes from the August 9 and 23 meetings along with the September financial reports, approving all items unanimously.

The board approved the monthly bills covering the period August 20 to September 10, 2021, split across the General Fund, Activity Fund, Food Service, and Capital Reserve. It approved continuing its use of Questeq for E-rate services with no price increase, and approved a waiver of Keystone Exam Local Assessment proficiency portfolios for non-proficient Class of 2022 students. In the Barthelemy et al v. Moon Area School District matter, the board approved Social Security reimbursements to plaintiffs, passing eight in favor with one director dissenting. The board approved a school resource officer agreement with the Moon Township Police Department, supplemental Keystone content instruction for the Class of 2023 and beyond under Act 158, and the Yearbook and Newspaper organizations' annual request to operate. It approved the second reading of Policy No. 218.9 on bullying and cyberbullying along with its report form.

On personnel, the board accepted the resignations of a school nurse and a long-term substitute kindergarten teacher, approved an employee to the substitute position, approved several internal movements, a mentor assignment, extra-duty positions at McCormick Elementary School and Allard Elementary School, a Pre-K transition team leader, medical leaves for three employees, and approved STA bus and van drivers and a supplemental driver. The meeting ended at 7:35 p.m.
