Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held its October 11, 2021 business meeting at 7:05 p.m., called to order by the president, with seven directors present and two on speakerphone. The board approved the minutes from September 13 and 27, 2021, along with the October financial reports, and authorized payment of the monthly bills across the General Fund, Capital Reserve, Activity Fund, and Food Service. It approved a four-year collective bargaining agreement with the Moon Education Association effective July 1, 2021, and renewed its annual PSBA membership.

The board approved a student of Neshannock to swim as an independent competitor, authorized the 2021-2022 club lists for the high and middle schools, and approved a varsity wrestling trip to Grove City in January 2022. It approved a schedule of daily field trips, including Academic League competitions and a November theater performance, and authorized a conference for an employee. Twelve policies received first readings, including physical examinations, sick leave, building security, and the school calendar, while the bullying and cyberbullying policy received its third and final reading.

In personnel, the board hired a dishwasher/server, two building assistants, a payroll specialist, a school nurse, and a long-term substitute special education teacher, all pending clearances, and named mentors for new hires. It granted a sabbatical, several leaves of absence, and accepted the resignation of the head track and field coach. It approved internal movements, a teacher leading a sixth class, and winter coaching staffs for basketball, wrestling, swimming, gymnastics, cheerleading, and bowling. The superintendent presented PSBA service certificates to outgoing directors, and the board adjourned at 7:37 p.m.
