Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held its December 6, 2021 business meeting at 7:36 p.m., called to order by the president, with all ten directors present and a solicitor in attendance. The board approved the November 15 minutes and a range of December financial reports, then authorized payment of the monthly bills across the General, Activity, and Food Service funds for the period November 13 to December 2, 2021. It committed a portion of the current fund balance for future salaries, benefits, and employee development.

The board approved several funding items: a grant application for Battle of the Books books, gift certificates to Firstbook for STEAM supplies and books at Hyde Elementary, and a donation for athletic scoreboard upgrades. It appointed an employee to the Parkway West CTC Joint Operating Committee for a two-year term beginning December 2021, with an alternate to be named later, and approved a settlement agreement and release with a student.

The board approved daily field trips for the 2021-2022 year, including a Heinz History Center trip on December 21 and visits to the Pittsburgh Playhouse, Duquesne University, Fun Fore, and Dave and Busters. It approved the Moon Area Education Foundation's annual operating request and passed third and final reading of thirteen revised policies covering physical examinations, working periods, sick leave, student welfare, internal controls, facilities safety, building security, electronic device use, the school calendar, law enforcement relations, and public attendance and school visitors.

On personnel, the board approved a long-term substitute speech language pathologist, a groundskeeper Tech III, and several medical and family leaves of absence. It accepted the resignations of two employees, approved extra-duty pay, internal movements, a cyber teacher, spring and winter coaches, an event videographer, a pre-student teacher intern, STA drivers, and authorized the superintendent to fill special education, cafeteria, nurse assistant, and substitute science teacher positions before the January 10 meeting. The meeting adjourned at 8:56 p.m.
