Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held a workshop meeting on January 24, 2022, called to order by the president at 7:05 p.m. Nine directors were present, with one director absent; the board had earlier met in executive session over personnel and legal matters. The superintendent recognized a student for being named PIAA Cross Country Runner of the Year for the second time, and the Finance Committee agenda was addressed as an employee of Boenning and Scattergood presented refunding and new money options.

The board approved the monthly bills for January 8-21, 2022, approved the 2022-2023 High School Program of Studies, and approved the 2022-2023 school calendar, each by roll call. It also approved a list of daily field trips for the 2021-2022 year, subject to existing protocols.

Under personnel, the board approved leaves of absence for two teachers and a custodian, accepted the resignation of a custodian effective January 28, and approved extra-duty pay for bus duty covering a director and for the Odyssey of the Mind Coordinator. It authorized the superintendent to fill special education assistant, building assistant, cafeteria, and nurse assistant positions before the February 14 meeting, approved spring coaches and an athletic trainer, and approved STA bus and van drivers. The board approved salary adjustments for administrators, totalling a specific amount.

The motion to approve all personnel items passed by roll call, with four directors voting against the Softball Assistant Coach A-2 position. The meeting adjourned at 7:41 p.m.
