Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held its February 14, 2022 business meeting at 7:00 p.m., called to order by the president. Directors present were the president, Harper, Barr, Wise, Stuart, Callahan and Kammerer; Bogatay and Scappe were absent. The superintendent's report included the 2022-2023 preliminary budget, presented by an employee, and a bond-issue update from an employee of Boenning and Scattergood, who noted interest rates were not favorable at the time.

The board added an agenda item to fund half the cost of Girls Soccer championship rings up to a specific amount per ring; it passed on a roll call vote, with a director dissenting. The board approved minutes from January 10 and 24, 2022, along with the February financial reports. It approved the monthly bills for the period January 22 to February 11, 2022, split across the General Fund, Activity Fund and Food Service. A motion to renew the district employees' life insurance and AD&D policy was tabled. The board approved lease agreements with the Allegheny Intermediate Unit for its Pre-K Counts and DART programs for 2022-2023, approved Jordan Tax Collection Services as deputy tax collector for Moon Township, and approved the Allegheny IU special education policies and use-of-funds agreement. It also approved the Best Buddies Club's annual request to operate and a list of daily field trips for the 2021-2022 school year.

On personnel, the board appointed an employee as a special education assistant at McCormick Elementary and an employee as a custodian at Allard/Brooks Elementary, approved several leaves of absence, a stipend for an employee for cyber data rollover, an internal movement for a student teacher, authorization to fill special education, cafeteria and nurse positions, temporary custodians at a specific hourly rate, STA bus and van drivers, and a softball assistant coach. The meeting adjourned at 9:31 p.m.
