Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held its February 28, 2022, business meeting at 7:00 p.m., called to order by the president. Nine directors were present, along with the superintendent, administrator, and solicitor. The board unanimously approved district bills for the period February 12 to February 24, 2022, across the General, Activity, Capital Reserve, and Food Service funds. It unanimously approved the Parkway West Career and Technology Center's 2022-2023 budget, including the district's estimated share for the general operating budget and the jointure budget.

Regarding life insurance, the board approved the policy and AD&D renewal for district employees, but amended the motion to authorize a 31-day termination notice to Sun Life effective March 31, 2022. All directors voted in favor except one director, who voted against it. The board approved the yearly renewal of a support counselor for the MAPS Program through PK&S, LLC. It approved Moon Area's participation in the Kennedy School of Driving End-of-Course Skills Test Program, approved a list of daily field trips for 2021-2022, and approved the dance team's trip to Hershey for the National Dance Competition, April 22-24, with no anticipated district cost.

In personnel, the board accepted the retirement of an English teacher, approved several medical and family leaves of absence, and approved an internal movement for a library assistant. It authorized the superintendent to hire for special education, cafeteria, and nurse assistant positions before the March 14 meeting, and approved volunteer coaches, an athletic department volunteer, spring event workers, and an STA van driver. One item was not approved: the family medical leave of absence for an employee. All personnel items passed unanimously except Item No. 7, which one director voted against. The meeting adjourned at 7:45 p.m.
