Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held its business meeting on March 28, 2022, at 7:10 p.m., called to order by the president. Seven directors were present, with two directors absent; the board had earlier met in executive session over personnel and legal matters.

The board approved bills for payment covering March 12 to March 25, 2022, and authorized administration to pay bills from March 26 to April 22, 2022, since the April 11 meeting was canceled. It approved the list of daily student field trips for the remainder of the 2021-2022 year, including visits to Carnegie Science Center, the Pittsburgh Zoo, and the National Aviary, and cleared the dance team's trip to Hershey for a national competition at no cost to the district.

The board tabled LERTA Resolution No. 2022-2 until the April 25 meeting for further public review, voting 5-2 against with the secretary abstaining due to a conflict of interest. In personnel actions, the board hired a dishwasher/server and a custodian at Allard Elementary, approved extra-duty pay for an employee and others, named remediation substitute facilitators, sanctioned internal movements, and authorized the superintendent to fill special education, cafeteria, and nurse assistant positions before the next meeting. It also approved student teachers from Slippery Rock and Duquesne universities, a temporary custodian, volunteer and varsity fall coaches, and a substitute event worker.

A director voted in favor of all personnel items except the varsity coaching appointments, which involved a family member. The meeting adjourned at 7:48 p.m.
