Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held a workshop meeting on May 23, 2022, at 7:00 p.m., called to order by the Vice President. Seven directors were present, with two directors absent. The superintendent recognized the district's section-championship bowling teams, two girls' basketball players named All-State 5A, three Eagle Scouts, and several student-athlete recognitions.

The board approved a series of personnel actions, including the appointment of an interim business manager, a director of fiscal and school services, and a childrearing leave for a teacher. It accepted the resignation of a varsity girls basketball head coach and approved substitute summer teachers, paraeducators, summer help workers, and STA bus drivers.

The board approved the monthly bills for the period May 6 to May 20, 2022, across the general, activity, and food service funds. It approved the proposed final budget for 2022-2023, with adoption set for June 13, 2022. Contracts approved included eFax service with The Wilson Group, a NWEA MAPs Growth assessment renewal, a one-year SmartFutures software subscription, a services agreement with The Bradley Center for mental health services, and an agreement with the Allegheny Intermediate Unit.

The board adopted high school textbooks, including modern world history, business foundations, and film as literature, and middle school textbooks, including world geography and College Board's SpringBoard English/Language Arts curriculum. It approved daily field trips, a varsity boys basketball trip to Pensacola, Florida, and two strength camps run by 3 Minute Fitness and Durkin Sports Performance Training at no cost to the district. The meeting adjourned at 7:30 p.m. All motions passed on roll call or voice votes.
