The Moon Area Board of Education held its August 8, 2022 business meeting at 7:00 p.m., called to order by the Vice President. Directors present were the Vice President, Barr, Wise, Harper, Callahan, Kammerer, Bogatay, and Scappe; Zieger was absent. The board approved the July 18 minutes and the August financial reports, including the treasurer's, investment, board summary, high school/middle school activities, and procurement card reports. It approved the bills for payments from July 15 to August 5, 2022, split across the general fund, activity fund, food service, and capital reserve; a director questioned the waste services and technology equipment costs. The board approved the 2022-2023 meeting dates and tabled the 2022-2023 health and safety plan summary.

The board approved daily field trips for the year, including visits to the R. Michael Benedum Center and Pittsburgh Playhouse/Point Park on dates ranging from October 2022 to February 2023. It approved the Moon Area High School Choir's annual request to operate, authorized the high school boys baseball team's trip to Myrtle Beach in March 2023, and continued the partnership with 3 Minute Fitness and Durkin Sports Performance for six strength camps at no cost to the district.

In personnel, the board hired 9 new staff members, including two special education life skills teachers, a speech language pathologist, an elementary grade 3 teacher, an assistant high school principal, a building assistant, two life skills support assistants, a learning support assistant, and a dishwasher/server. It accepted two resignations, approved an internal movement, and granted leaves of absence. It also authorized the superintendent to fill additional positions before the next meeting. A director voiced concern about the Moon Transportation Authority, saying the district lacks flexibility and wants to revisit it, while a director and a director discussed the district's ability to approach new businesses and a marketplace contract. The meeting adjourned at 7:50 p.m.
