Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held its August 22, 2022, business meeting at 7:00 p.m., called to order by the president, with nine directors present and a solicitor in attendance. The president noted the board had met in executive session beforehand on personnel and legal matters. The superintendent reported on a cyber ransomware attack communicated to parents and noted athletics were underway with several defending state champions.

The board approved the monthly bills for August 6–19, 2022, across the General Fund, Activity Fund, Food Service, and Capital Reserve. Directors asked questions about higher water bills, a new vehicle for student transportation, Johnson Controls' fire-safety services, and contracted window cleaning. The board granted the superintendent authority to approve building disposal lists, approved the 2022-2023 Health and Safety Plan Summary, and approved the Title I and Title IIA non-public school agreements.

On personnel, the board hired a teacher, three long-term substitutes, a dishwasher/server, an HVAC apprentice, and an assistant nurse, while accepting resignations from three employees and approving a medical leave for an employee. The board approved mentors, awarded tenure to an employee, authorized teachers teaching sixth classes, and approved extra-duty pay across Allard, Bon Meade, Hyde, the middle school, and the high school. Spring coaches and fall sports event workers were approved, and the board accepted the resignation of a football game manager. The board authorized the superintendent to fill ESY paraprofessional, building assistant, cafeteria, assistant nurse, and substitute math teacher positions before the September 12 meeting, and approved six STA drivers. The meeting adjourned at 7:26 p.m.
