Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held its business meeting on September 12, 2022, called to order by the president. Seven directors were present; one director was absent. The board approved the minutes from the August 8 and August 22 meetings and a suite of financial reports, voting unanimously on a roll call. During the discussion, a director raised questions about the investment report and procurement cards, and the board directed that PNC Bank procurement cards no longer be used, with all charges moving to Dollar Bank cards and possibly paying utility bills that way.

The board approved bills for payment, covering the Activity Fund, Food Service, Capital Reserve Fund, and General Fund, unanimously. It approved school bus routes and stops for the 2022-2023 year, with directors asking administration to revisit early morning pickup times amid concerns about traffic and a parent driving children. The board approved the purchase of double-stack Combi Ovens from Trimark for Allard and Brooks Elementary Schools from the Food Service Fund, passing 6-1 with one director voting against. Other approvals included a one-year managed cybersecurity service from Arete Advisors, a workers' compensation panel from WorkPartners, and girls wrestling operating as a club sport under the wrestling boosters. The board also approved the full list of daily field trips for the year.

In personnel, the board accepted the resignations of two employees, approved several new hires including a special education personal assistant and learning support assistant, granted medical and childbearing leaves, approved internal movements, named an employee as safety coordinator, and approved a cyber music teacher and mentors. It approved extra-duty pay across Allard, Brooks, McCormick, and the middle school, fall event workers for football, student teachers and interns, authorization to fill vacancies before the next meeting, and both new and re-approved STA bus drivers. The meeting adjourned at 7:47 p.m.
