Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held its October 10, 2022 business meeting at 7:00 p.m., called to order by the Vice President. Seven directors were present, with two directors absent.

The board approved the minutes from September 12 and 26, 2022, along with the October financial reports, by roll call vote. It approved the monthly bills for payments spanning September 24 to October 6, 2022, split between the General Fund, Activity Fund, Food Service, and Capital Reserve Fund. The board authorized two purchases from Allegheny Educational Systems to update labs: one for a Middle School Tech Ed lab and one for a High School Tech Ed lab.

The board approved independent swimmers from two neighboring areas competing at home meets, along with their coaches. It endorsed the annual operating requests for middle school clubs and high school clubs and activities for the 2022-2023 school year. Field trips were approved for the dance team to a city in Ohio, and the wrestling team to a city in Pennsylvania, both with no anticipated district costs, plus a list of daily field trips through the 2022-2023 year.

In personnel, the board approved a middle school Learning Support Assistant and a McCormick Elementary custodian, both pending clearances. It granted an employee a medical leave, approved internal movements, a pre-student teacher, a dance team head coach, winter coaches across multiple sports, winter event workers, and authorized the superintendent to fill several positions before the October 24 meeting. Four drivers were also approved.

During board comments, a resident asked about checking account balances and additional investing, and the superintendent said advisors manage investments and an annual report will be presented at year's end. The meeting adjourned at 7:31 p.m.
