Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held its November 21, 2022 business meeting at 7:00 p.m., called to order by the Vice President, with seven directors present and two absent. The board approved the minutes from October 10 and 24, then authorized payment of the monthly bills across the General, Activity, and Food Service funds. It transferred funds from the General Fund to the Capital Reserve Fund, extended its Direct Energy electric supply contract for three years starting January 2024, and approved a memorandum of understanding with the Moon Township Police Department for one additional School Resource Officer funded by a PCCD School Safety Grant. The board also approved a settlement agreement with the Moon Area ESP.

The board cleared a large personnel package, accepting the resignation of the Assistant Superintendent, terminating an employee, and hiring three custodians and a building assistant. It granted medical, sick, and childbearing leaves to several teachers and staff, approved long-term and short-term substitutes, and authorized hiring for paraprofessionals, cafeteria and custodial positions, and substitute teachers. It also approved numerous remediation tutors, department-head compensation, and winter coaches.

The board sanctioned several student trips, including a High School Student Council visit to Arlington, Virginia, and an Honors Choir trip to New York City, plus a list of daily field trips. The superintendent's report congratulated the boys' golf team on its ninth straight Section title, praised McCormick Elementary for the state's highest elementary score, and noted the departing superintendent. All motions passed on roll call or voice votes, and the meeting adjourned at 7:33 p.m.
