Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held its January 9, 2023, business meeting at 7:00 p.m., called to order by the president. Nine directors attended, with one director absent, and the board had earlier met in executive session over personnel and legal matters.

The board approved the December 5 reorganization and business meeting minutes along with the January financial reports, including the treasurer's, investment, board summary, activities, and procurement card reports. It approved the monthly bills across the General, Activity, Food Service, and Capital Reserve funds. The board authorised a River Therapies agreement for Speech Language Pathologist services through the end of the school year, a Clinical Affiliation Agreement with Carlow University, and a cooperative agreement with Cornell Area School District for combined girls' high school basketball teams for 2023-2024. It approved the 2022-2023 daily field trip schedule.

On curriculum, the board considered new courses in cybersecurity, comprehensive musicianship, and an algebra redesign. In personnel, it approved leave extensions and new absences, hired a middle school counselor, three custodians, and a long-term substitute fifth-grade teacher, accepted three resignations, named three high school remediation coordinators, assigned mentors, awarded tenure to a teacher, approved internal movements, a volunteer boys' basketball coach, pre-student teachers, and authorised the superintendent to fill paraprofessional, cafeteria, and substitute math teacher posts. It also approved two STA drivers. All motions passed on roll call votes. The meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
