Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held a workshop meeting on January 23, 2023, called to order by the president at 7:00 p.m. Six directors were present, with two attending by conference call and one absent. The board first accepted the resignation of the superintendent, effective immediately, then appointed the superintendent to the same position for a term running January 23, 2023, through June 30, 2027, subject to a written agreement. A director abstained from both votes due to a conflict of interest.

The board approved the monthly bills for the period January 6 to January 20, 2023, split across the General, Activity, Food Service, and Capital Reserve funds. It approved Resolution No. 2023-1, confirming the district would not raise taxes above the Act 1 index of 4.9% for the 2023-2024 school year. The board also approved a quote from Questeq to replace desktops and monitors in four tech labs and provide laptops, funded by ARP ESSER money, and approved the 2023-2024 school calendar and the High School Program of Studies.

A large personnel motion carried, covering leaves of absence for several teachers, a mentor assignment, a resignation, extra-duty pay, internal movements, and spring and fall coaches, plus authorization for the superintendent to hire cafeteria positions, a long-term substitute math teacher, and approval of two STA drivers. The board approved a list of daily field trips for the remainder of the 2022-2023 year, including trips to Parkway West, the Allegheny County Courthouse, and Duquesne University. The meeting adjourned at 7:47 p.m.
