Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held its February 13, 2023 business meeting at 7:00 p.m., called to order by the president, with seven directors present and one via conference call. The board appointed the district assistant superintendent from February 14, 2023 to February 13, 2028, subject to a written agreement, voting unanimously. It approved the January 9 and 23 meeting minutes along with the February financial reports, and authorized payment of the monthly bills across the General, Activity, Food Service, and Capital Reserve funds. The board accepted Act 20 Resolution No. 2023-2 for delinquent real estate tax collection and approved the Parkway West 2023-2024 budget, with the district's estimated share.

The board approved the IDEA Part B use of funds agreement, a student placement agreement for a student (with a director abstaining), and an IUP educator and clinician field experience agreement. It sanctioned several student field trips: the boys volleyball team to Meadville and State College, the Academic Games team to Orlando for the national tournament, and the dance team to Morgantown, Canton, and Hershey. Daily field trips for the remainder of the school year were also approved.

The board granted first reading to five revised policies—Nos. 202, 218, 335, 816, 913, and 916—and approved the first, second, and final reading of Policy No. 202. In personnel, it hired several staff members, including special education teachers, classroom assistants, and cafeteria workers, and approved multiple leaves of absence for four employees. The board approved coaches and event workers for the spring and upcoming seasons, authorized dividing the baseball head coach's stipend three ways, and approved an STA driver. It also authorized the superintendent to fill paraprofessional, cafeteria, and a long-term substitute math teacher position before the February 27 meeting. The meeting adjourned at 7:22 p.m.
