Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held its February 27, 2023, workshop meeting at 7:00 p.m., called to order by the president. Seven directors were present, with two directors absent. Before the meeting, the board convened in executive session over personnel and legal matters. The superintendent's report featured a ten-year student population forecast from Davis Demographics, projecting resident students from 2022/23 through 2032/33 based on current demographics and residential development.

The board approved bills for February 11–24, 2023, split across the General, Activity, and Food Service funds. It exonerated the Moon and Crescent Township tax collectors from collecting unpaid 2022 real estate taxes. The board approved a Memorandum of Understanding with the Allegheny Intermediate Unit's Head Start and Pre-K Counts programs to support kindergarten transitions, authorized the Right at School program to operate in the district, and approved daily field trips to the Allegheny County Courthouse on March 8 and 15, 2023. It also approved the speech and debate team's trip to Bloomsburg University for the state tournament and to Phoenix for the national tournament.

On personnel, the board accepted the retirements of two employees and the resignation of a track coach. It approved leaves for two employees, extra pay for two Hyde Elementary duty positions, a mentor pairing, and additional compensation for a department chair. The board adjusted the track and field coaching staff, approved several volunteer coaches, approved an internal movement, authorized hiring of paraprofessionals, cafeteria workers, and a long-term substitute math teacher, and approved two STA drivers. All motions passed on roll call votes. The meeting adjourned at 8:08 p.m.
