Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held its March 27, 2023, workshop meeting at 7:00 p.m., called to order by the president, with eight directors present and a moment of silence held for a senior who had died the previous week. After moving personnel to the top of the agenda, the board approved a batch of personnel items, including an athletic director, a building assistant at Brooks Elementary, and a temporary field house worker. The board accepted the retirement of a building manager effective June 30, approved volunteer coaches for spring sports, authorized hiring of paraprofessionals, cafeteria staff, and a long-term substitute math teacher, and approved pre-student teachers and an STA driver. The board approved the bills for the period March 11 to March 24, 2023. It approved capital projects for 2023-2024, including a contract for the high school stadium turf and district-wide sidewalk and concrete repairs, with building-specific repairs added by amendment. The board approved a six-year transportation agreement with STA of Pennsylvania commencing July 1, 2023, passing 8-2 after two directors voted no over the absence of bus seatbelts. It approved the Allegheny Intermediate Unit program of services budget, with the district's contribution estimated as a specific amount, and approved participation in the Kennedy School of Driving end-of-course skills test program. The board adopted a ninth-grade social studies textbook using ESSER funds, approved the middle school program of studies, and authorized the boys volleyball field trip to St. Francis University.
