Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held its June 26, 2023 workshop meeting at 7:00 p.m., called to order by the president. Directors Stuart, Barr, Wise, Bogatay, Kammerer, Scappe, and Callahan were present; Zieger and Harper were absent. The board had met in executive session beforehand to discuss personnel and legal matters.

The board approved the bills for the period May 6 to May 19, 2023, split across the General Fund, Activity Fund, Food Service Fund, and Capital Reserve. It adopted the Final General Fund Budget for 2023-2024, with expenditures of 89,691,729 and a millage rate of 23.7856, and approved the final tax levy resolutions, raising the real estate millage to 23.7856 mills. The board also adopted Homestead and Farmstead Exclusion Resolution #2023-3.

On curriculum, the board approved the adoption of Envision Mathematics grade 8 materials from Saavas Learning Company. It approved a revised 2023-2024 school calendar and authorized a dance team field trip to Youngstown, Ohio, July 8-9, 2023, with no anticipated district cost.

In personnel, the board approved a district school psychologist, a K-4 special education life skills teacher, a middle school special education life skills teacher, a long-term substitute special education teacher, and a fiscal director administrative assistant. It accepted the resignation of an employee, approved cyber teachers for 2023-2024, summer help workers, dance team coaches, STA drivers, and authorized the superintendent to hire ESY paraeducators, custodians, and summer help workers before the July 17 meeting. The board approved conferences for two employees at the PASBO School Operations Academy. The meeting adjourned at 7:15 p.m. All motions passed on roll call votes.
