Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held its July 17, 2023 business meeting at 7:00 p.m., called to order by the Vice President. Directors Callahan, Bogatay, Wise, Zieger, and Barr were present; Stuart, Scappe, Harper, and Kammerer were absent.

The board approved the minutes from the June 1, 12, and 26 meetings along with the July financial reports, including the treasurer's, investment, board summary, activities, and procurement card reports. It approved the bills for payments from June 24 to July 14, 2023, split between the General Fund, Activity Fund, Food Service Fund, and Capital Reserve Fund. The board approved a five-year service agreement with Questeq, Inc., for the district's outsourced technology department, authorized the purchase of middle and high school laptops, and approved Renaissance STAR Assessments for grades K-8 starting the 2023-2024 year.

On personnel, the board accepted the resignations of a payroll specialist and a high school nurse assistant. It approved several hires, including a science teacher, a middle school teacher-reading specialist, and three long-term substitutes. It also approved a clerk, a high school custodian, a building assistant, and a medical leave of absence for a choral director. The board approved a summer ESY paraeducator, rescinded the cyber teacher extra pay for an employee, approved student teachers from Duquesne University, and approved coaches. It authorized the superintendent to fill additional positions—speech language pathologist, high school building manager, assistant nurse, paraeducators, cafeteria staff, and bus drivers—before the August 14 meeting. The meeting adjourned at 7:07 p.m.
