Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held its August 14, 2023 business meeting at 7:00 p.m., called to order by the president. Seven directors were present, with one director joining by conference call and one director absent; the board had met in executive session beforehand. The superintendent recognized seven Eagle Scouts and a coach who won the Mark Davis Award as Pennsylvania Rugby Coach of the Year.

The board approved the July 17 minutes and the August financial reports, then authorized payment of the monthly bills across the General, Activity, Food Service, and Capital Reserve funds. It approved the IDEA Section 619 Use of Funds Agreement, the purchase of dishwashers from TriMark for Bon Meade and Brooks Elementary, and the 2023-2024 meeting dates. The board approved Targeted School Improvement Plans for Hyde Elementary and Moon Area Upper Middle School, with one director absent during those votes. It also approved Title I and Title IIA agreements with the Allegheny Intermediate Unit and authorized a Varsity wrestling field trip to the Fred Bell Tournament in Grove City.

On personnel, the board accepted resignations of three employees, and approved hires including a Payroll Specialist, a long-term substitute teacher, a high school building manager, and an assistant nurse. It approved mentors, curriculum writing, summer ESY paraeducator substitutes, coaches, STA drivers, and authorized the superintendent to fill additional positions before the August 28 meeting. A director praised another director's service in board comments, and the meeting adjourned at 7:26 p.m.
