Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held its business meeting on August 28, 2023, at 7:00 p.m., called to order by the president. Eight directors were present, with one director absent. The superintendent's report recognized directors for years of service and noted the strong start to fall sports on new turf.

The board approved the monthly bills for August 12–25, 2023, split across the General, Activity, and Food Service funds. It granted the superintendent authority to approve building disposal lists for consumables, old textbooks, and damaged equipment. A donation to pay student lunch debt was accepted, and an agreement with River Therapies for Speech Language Pathologist services through January 16, 2024, was approved. Daily field trips to Robert Morris University, Duquesne University, and MASD elementary schools were authorized.

On personnel, the board approved a district school psychologist, a dishwasher/server, a long-term substitute second-grade teacher, and two resignations. It accepted leaves of absence for three employees, approved mentors, and awarded tenure to eight teachers. The board approved teachers teaching sixth classes, a cyber music teacher, internal movements, substitutes, and authorized the superintendent to fill long-term substitute teacher, cafeteria, paraeducator, custodian, substitute custodian, and bus driver positions before the September 11 meeting.

The board approved coaches and a large list of event workers, along with extensive extra-pay duty assignments across all schools, including bus monitors, class sponsors, and athletic and arts positions. All motions passed on roll call votes, with one director abstaining on the personnel item due to a family member. The meeting adjourned at 7:21 p.m.
