Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held its October 23, 2023 workshop meeting at 7:00 p.m., called to order by the president, with nine directors present and a solicitor in attendance. The board approved bills for the period of October 7 to October 20, 2023, split across the General, Activity, Food Service, and Capital Reserve funds. It approved a transfer from the General Fund to the Capital Reserve Fund, adopted Reimbursement Resolution #2023-5, and approved Questeq to provide E-Rate Services for Categories 1 and 2 for the 2024-2025 school year. The board accepted a Reflex Math grant giving Allard Elementary students access to the app and approved the attached list of daily field trips for the 2023-2024 year, including trips to the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Moonshot Museum, Parkway West, Benedum Center, and Pittsburgh Children's Museum.

The board accepted the resignations of a speech language pathologist at Allard, a middle school custodian, and a dishwasher/server at the high school. It approved a special education assistant for life skills at Bon Meade Elementary, awarded tenure to an employee, and approved extra pay for a bus monitor. The board approved numerous remediation program tutors and facilitators at Allard, Bon Meade, Brooks, Hyde, and McCormick, along with supplemental Pre-Algebra and Keystone Algebra instructors. The board approved internal movements, a substitute custodian, an STA driver, and a large list of coaches across girls and boys basketball, wrestling, bowling, swimming, indoor track, hockey, and cheerleading, while rescinding and re-approving the middle school wrestling volunteer coaching position. The board authorized the superintendent to fill vacancies in speech language pathology, building assistance, cafeteria, paraeducator, custodial, and bus driving roles before the November 20 meeting.

During non-agenda comments, a resident discussed a meeting about Mooncrest and Hyde students, and a resident voiced support for Parkway West. An employee announced this was his final board meeting after two decades of service. The meeting adjourned at 8:13 p.m.
