Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held its March 11, 2024 business meeting at 7:00 p.m., called to order by the president. Seven directors were present; two directors were absent, and the board had met in executive session beforehand on personnel and legal matters.

The board approved the February 12 and February 27 minutes along with the March financial reports, then approved the bills across the General, Food Service, and Activity funds. It appointed Dinsmore & Shohl LLP as bond counsel through December 31, 2025, and hired an auditor for three years. The board renewed Weiss Burkhardt Kramer LLC as special counsel effective April 1, 2024, approved the IDEA Part B use-of-funds agreement, and adopted the 2024-2025 Allegheny Intermediate Unit program budget, with the district's share estimated. It also approved the educational services agreement with The School at McGuire Memorial, accepted a book donation for incoming kindergarteners, authorized a new Model UN/Model EU club, and approved a cost-free state-capital trip for the soccer team. Daily field trips through May were approved, along with a full personnel package covering new hires, retirements, coaching resignations, medical and childbearing leaves, substitute custodians, and authorization to fill cafeteria, paraeducator, and bus driver positions. All motions passed on roll call votes.

During audience recognition, residents questioned redistricting and spending, prompting responses from an administrator and others. The meeting adjourned at 7:35 p.m.
