Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held a workshop meeting on May 28, 2024, called to order by the president, with six directors present and three absent. The board approved bills for payment across the General, Activity, Food Service, and Capital Reserve funds. It approved the proposed final budget for 2024-2025, with expenditures and a millage rate of 24.5467.

The board authorized construction management services with SitelogIQ for Phase 2, plus monthly costs and a closeout fee for Phase 3, covering the stadium, middle school, high school, and a maintenance building addition. It approved wireless access points through Networking Technologies via E-Rate funding. A cooperative sponsorship agreement with Cornell School District for track and field was approved, pending WPIAL/PIAA approval.

The board approved several service and supply contracts: Monster Tree Service for tree pruning; Sure Line, Inc. for parking lot work; Howard Technology Solutions for camera installation; and Total Technology to buy back older iPads. Science curriculum adoptions included McGraw Hill Inspire for grades 6-8, high school science, Flinn Scientific's White Box Learning, and Twig Education for grades 3-5. A consulting agreement with Pittsburgh Behavioral Services was approved.

The board approved a rental agreement with Carol Leone's Dance & Gymnastics and authorized a high school international business field trip to France in 2026. A large personnel package passed, covering leaves, resignations, compensation, summer hires, department heads, and fall and winter sports coaches. During public comment, a resident questioned the Hyde Elementary closure timeline and construction fund allocation, with the superintendent noting a vote cannot occur until August.
