Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held a workshop meeting on June 24, 2024, called to order by the Vice President, with five directors present and five absent. The board approved the bills for the period June 8-21, 2024, and adopted the Final General Fund Budget for 2024-2025, with a millage rate of 24.5467. It also adopted the Homestead/Farmstead Exclusion Resolution No. 2024-2 and the final tax levy resolution, increasing real estate mills to 24.5467.

The board renewed the district's insurance policies with Assured Partners, covering Commercial Package, General Liability, Automobile, Crime, Cyber, and Workers' Compensation for July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025. It adopted Resolution No. 2024-4 authorizing the issuance of General Obligation Bonds for refunding Series A bonds of 2015 and capital improvements. The board accepted donations to payoff school lunch debt and approved a Memorandum of Understanding with the Moon Township Police Department.

Agreements approved included Precision HR Solutions (July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2026), Class Academy Services, New Directions Mental Health, and Wesley Family Services for the 2024-2025 school year. The board approved the first and final reading of revised Policy No. 218.9 on Bullying/Cyberbullying.

In personnel, the board approved two School Psychologists, a Dishwasher/Server, and a Clerk to the Board, and accepted resignations from three employees. It granted leaves of absence to two employees, approved fall sports coaches, internal movements, and authorized hiring of substitute custodians, bus drivers, and ESY positions. The superintendent and an employee reported on the Moon Transportation Authority, while an employee of Axis Architecture updated the board on High School and Middle School renovations. Residents voiced opposition to the proposed recreation center and the planned closure of Hyde, with the board noting the recreation project remains undecided. The meeting adjourned at 8:40 p.m.
