Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held its August 26, 2024, workshop meeting, called to order by the president. After an executive session, the board approved bills for the period of August 10–23, 2024, split across the General Fund, Activity Fund, Food Service Fund, and Capital Reserve. It authorized the superintendent to approve building disposal lists, renewed a one-year e-rate services agreement with Questeq for 2025-2026, and approved the 2024-2025 bus stop list.

The board approved transitioning Moon Area High School lacrosse teams to varsity status, and accepted a donation from the Moon Lacrosse Club. It approved service agreements with the Beaver Valley Intermediate Unit, PA Connecting Communities, The Day School, Southwood Children's Behavioral Healthcare, and Global Wordsmiths for translation and interpretation services through September 2026. Field trips were approved for the middle school dance team and the high school girls' and boys' wrestling teams.

In personnel, the board accepted 5 resignations and approved new hires, along with several long-term substitutes. It approved a custodian, leaves of absence, Safety Care trainers, mentors, tenure for two employees, internal movements, teachers taking sixth classes and half classes, and extra-duty pay across all schools. The board authorized the superintendent to fill additional positions before the September 9 meeting and approved new and re-approved STA bus drivers, a volunteer girls tennis coach, and event workers.

During public comment, a resident raised concerns about reassigning students from the closing Hyde school, and the superintendent said placements and redistricting would be reviewed over the coming months. The meeting adjourned at 8:36 p.m.
