Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held its September 9, 2024 business meeting at 7:00 p.m., called to order by the president. Eight directors were present, with one director absent; the meeting followed an executive session on personnel and legal matters.

The board approved the August minutes and financial reports, then authorized the monthly bills across the General, Activity, Food Service, and Capital Reserve funds. It approved a memorandum of agreement adding boys' and girls' varsity and junior varsity lacrosse to the Moon Education Association's collective bargaining agreement. New purchases included a three-year Thomson Reuters CLEAR software agreement and a Pearson OLSAT testing quote.

The board approved middle school clubs, revised 2024-2025 meeting dates, and several field trips, including cross country at Youngstown State University and the high school boys' basketball team's trip to the WPIAL Shot Clock Shootout in Canton, Ohio. It approved a full calendar of daily field trips for the school year. Five policies received first and final reading approval, and four more received third and final reading approval, all revised for PSBA and MASD adoption.

Personnel actions approved by roll call included hires for special education life skills, elementary grade 1, speech language pathology, building assistant, dishwasher/server, and special education assistant, along with two resignations and a travel-time stipend. The board approved mentors, extra-duty pay, internal movements, and fall, winter, and spring sports coaches, plus event workers and STA drivers. It authorized the superintendent to fill districtwide positions before the September 26 meeting. Two superintendent conferences in Atlanta and New Orleans were approved. During public comment, a parent raised concerns about gymnastics coaching, and the superintendent said he would investigate. The meeting adjourned at 7:27 p.m.
