Board of Education Meeting

The Moon Area Board of Education held a workshop meeting on October 28, 2024, called to order by the president at 7:00 p.m. Seven directors were present, with one director absent; the board had met in executive session beforehand to discuss personnel and legal matters.

The board approved the monthly bills for the period of October 12 to 25, 2024, split across the General Fund, Capital Reserve, Food Service, and Activity funds. It approved the Memorandum of Understanding with the Moon Area ESP/PSEA-NEA, accepted a donation from the Moon Lacrosse Club to support the boys' and girls' high school programs, and approved a no-cost pilot of Savvas MyPerspectives English for 10th-grade courses, to be evaluated during the second and third grading periods. The board also approved a River Therapies proposal for speech and language therapy services starting November 2024, an updated list of high school clubs for 2024-2025, and a list of daily field trips including visits to the Carnegie Museum of Art and the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. Conferences were approved, including the superintendent's trip to the Superintendents Summit in Park City, Utah.

In personnel actions, the board accepted the resignation of a custodian effective November 2, 2024, and approved three special education assistants. It approved internal movements, extra pay for middle and high school duty positions, and the hiring of STA bus and van drivers. The board rescinded prior approvals for two supplemental Algebra positions before re-approving them for the same individuals, effective October 25, 2024. It authorized the superintendent to fill various positions before the November 18 meeting and approved student teachers, winter and spring sports coaches, and volunteer coaches. The meeting adjourned at 7:27 p.m.
